Kills me...

You said it so perfectly...

It kills me when I see people being sold everything under the sun
that they don't need.

Now I am ALL FOR selling all kinds of stuff...

Just not to poor newbies who are just getting starting.

There's plenty of real customers out there who are LOOKING for products and services...

No need to slick a new guy into over extending himself for the sake of hustling a buck.

Great video Kim!

Diane Hochman — Sun, 07/18/2010 - 10:06pm

SHOUT IT LOUD!!! Take your tools and shove 'em!!

Exactly, @Diane!

I mean come on we both know we could sell

tools to a newbie and get them for about $10,000 real quick!!

BUT, how does that help them???

NOT AT ALL!!

There are TOO many people shoving their tools in people's faces...

and telling them they need them!!

"There's a tool for everything, but not everyone needs everything!"

Thanks for agreeing!

AND for the Kudos ;)

Kim Shahan — Sun, 07/18/2010 - 10:19pm

Refreshing!!!

Hi Kim,

Thank you for the points. I am always open to learning. You are a breath of fresh air.

You have inspired me to start my videos this week... I came across one of your videos last year. You have always been kind and generous. I pray that your success continues to grow beyond your wildest dreams...

Thank you again. I will be taking notes..

Have a Blessed Day,

Danny & Laura

"Breath of fresh air"...

I've heard that more than once,
YOU just have to be true and BE YOU!

Good luck BUT - I somehow doubt you'll need it,
(Got a hunch <>)!

Kim Shahan — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 8:11am

You just...

...saved TONS of new, unsuspecting folks...
A LOT of heard earned money!

No need to jump into the deep end of the pool when
you are just learning how to swim...;)

Kudos to YOU, Cowgirl!

Tools You Don't Need

Thanks Kim, I appreciate your no nonsense video. We want to bring value not break the bank! :)

Lynda Cromar — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 9:21am

You Can Tell a Good Mentor When

They tell you to put your wallet away, You don't need all that stuff yet. In my early experience in this industry, tools were pushed on me and I was not aware at that time that they were a profit centre for the upline and yet when I resold to my downline I earned not a dime - you are saving people a LOT of money and giving them a chance to stay in business - Thanks Kim for an important message

Wes Hazlitt — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 10:19am

No Nonsense...

Lynda, EXACTLY!!

"Bring value and not break the bank".

I like that! ;)

Kim Shahan — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 10:29am

Amen!

Hey Kim, that was a great and refreshing video. How many times do newcomers to our industry get suckered into buying "tools" they don't need or even know how to use. Some of us at some time or another experienced some form of this. These "tools" are a pushed as a great recruiting tools but what the new distributor does not know is that they produce more income for the company and sometimes their sponsor. It crosses a fine line between being ethical and honest.

Doing the right thing always, always takes you further.

Regards,

Paul

Straight Forward Advice for Newbies

Kim you're so Right .... Not only in Network Marketing ....This Happens Everywhere!

People take advantage of being in that authority position and it stinks!

Thanks Goodness for People Like you and of course the whole Fab Crew over @ HSBW :)

Cassie Strom — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 11:14am

Good Advice

Kim,
With new and sometimes not so new networkers this kind of information is priceless to them. It gets very confusing when first starting when you have so much coming at you, information overload. Keeping it simple is always best. Alot of newbies have done little or no technical computer activity, many don't even understand what 90% of these tools are, let alone know how to use them.

@Paul and the choir is singing hallelujah!!

You mean theres a "fine line"?? ;)

((sMiles)) Thank you.

Kim Shahan — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 12:34pm

Information OVERLOAD for sure!

@Bev Yes, I totally agree and what is sad..

is that many scream "scam" because of this very thing.

INSTEAD of people being straight up honest about

what they need and DON'T need!

Thanks for the input!

Kim Shahan — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 12:38pm

Hey Kim

Thanks for the honest look at all of the tools that get pushed on people.

I like what you said, all you need is an image and produce great content.

Now I would suggest people have a self-hosted blog as well as the auto-responder when they first start out.

Great stuff Kim

Peter Fuller — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 12:58pm

I agree...sorta

Hey Kim,

Great video. I'm all for simplification, but I'm not sure that an autoresponder is enough in this day and age. Let's face it, the successful marketers online have blogs, facebook fan pages, multiple lists, probably some good keyword tools, and have a basic understanding of article and/or video marketing, SEO and PPC.

True, a newbie will be overwhelmed by this, but I've found that it's best to give people a SYSTEM where they can have (and learn) everything under one roof, but at their own pace. This way, they are not looking at too many other things, and it's less confusing.

I use MLSP and am quite happy with it. I can take a newbie all the way through, and have them up and running in a couple of weeks.

All this being said, I appreciate your video. You make an excellent case regarding uplines that force too many things on their downlines.

Best,
Shecky

Jeff Schechter — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 2:13pm

One tool..

@Jeff THANK YOU for the input too ;)

What I meant in the video is that if I could pick ANY tool

to "push" on someone, I would pick an autoresponder as the most

valuable...you can't sell to people in a

list if you don't have one!

I have a TON of tools, but NOT everyone needs them.

I recommend what THAT person needs, and what I think

will really help them!

As for "systems", I have nothing against them...

If they do what they say, and they FIT the person using it.

But, sometimes THAT can even be too confusing. ;)

We have training every week for people our "Super Simple Series"..

and we don't pitch the next greatest tool.. or anything for that

matter.

People find it pretty cool and VERY simple also.

Best of luck with MLSP too ;)

and THANKS again!!

No Tool Very Cool

Thank you so much Kim, I needed to read something like this 2 years ago..wow my upline sold me everything under the sun, and in all that time I never used one thing they sold me...maddening.
But I know I have aligned myself with the most amazing group of people now for my next leg of the journey, and they two have never told me to buy this or that. And your right the only thing that I have bought was Aweber.

Real Info You Can Trust

What a great video, Kim, telling it like it is. Anyone listening to this will see that you have no "agenda" other than making sure no one is getting fleeced, especially a newcomer to our wonderful industry.

Way to go!

Holly Harris — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 4:54pm

Like it is...

Thanks, @ Holly!

Shhhhh... (I secretly have an agenda)

To make sure folks get the real info

and don't become suckers!!

BUT don't tell ;)

Kim Shahan — Mon, 07/19/2010 - 10:06pm

Excellent advice on this video Kim !

You know the "get the next tool" or "the new tool of
the month" is THE REASON my wife and I quit our
"old school" NWMing business in 1999.
Not to mention that when this company....who most know by the way...lost many good people when they changed to online.
That experience helped me very much though when I found Mike Dillard's MS 2 years ago...read it 5x and simply stopped and thought about my direction.
The biggest challenge for me as a 50+ year young technophobe was
how the heck will I implement all this?
Well God blessed me by putting a 27 year old web master in front of me as a total stranger who is now a very good friend and partner only 2 months after I found Mike's stuff.
Then I met Franco Gonzalez and his team 8 months ago who are slowly..not Franco's fault...getting me my future 6 figures which I will have back.
As we teach "If you want to go fast go slow".
To me that means stop and think where you are going.

Too many folks want THE BIG RED EASY BUTTON so they buy into a matrix or prelaunch or "get spillover" or you don't need to do anything or ....blah blah blah.
I hope lots of newbies see this video.
Thanks for leading Kim!

Nicholas Wind — Tue, 07/20/2010 - 5:47am

If you want to go fast GO SLOW!

@ Nicholas

An adored mentor of mine taught me that when I first met him 2 years ago...

People get in a HURRY - "Hurry up and get paid" he says...

It's NOT about the money - when you put people ahead of money...

USE MONEY and LOVE PEOPLE... instead of using people and LOVING money... it will all come back FULL circle.

Thank you for reminding me of this GREAT lesson!
BTW, if you ever wanna look him up... his name is Joe Schroeder. ;)

Kim Shahan — Tue, 07/20/2010 - 9:32am

You say it like it is!

Thanks Kim for your honesty.
It is so true that new marketers (and even advanced ones) need to focus on image and content...not money-sucking tools!
Thanks again,
